My Web Domain Registrar Dissappeared, how can I have my domains transferred?

Posted under Other - Internet by admin on Saturday 6 February 2010 at 8:28 am
Steven A asked:

I have a problem, my web host, which is also my domain registrar dissappeared or went bankrupt, I have no clue, I’ve issued a order for my domains to be transferred to another registrar because that one is obviously unreliable. The problem is the order hasn’t been accepted because the registrar’s servers are down, meaning the emails cannot be sent.

So what are my options in these situation? I cannot set up one of my back up domains because the damm host put me in a mess.

Is a 6-letter pronouncable (nonsense) domain name worth buying?

Posted under Other - Internet by admin on Thursday 24 December 2009 at 12:04 am
KurtEK asked:

I stumbled across two six-letter domains that are easily pronouncable and could be spelled by someone who heard them fairly easily as well. Each is made up of two common-use words but combines to make no sense per say. Are they worth buying just as an investment? Follow up question: any good websites for assessing domain value relative to length and pronouncability?

How do I get value from Network Solutions?

Posted under Other - Internet by admin on Tuesday 21 July 2009 at 5:08 am
JustAsking asked:

Recently I got a couple of domains from Network Solutions. A colleague in IT just raved about how they’re the best, they have the most services, they’re the Hertz/VISA/Nike/AmazoneBay of web services – how could I go wrong?

Well, I’m thinking I did go wrong. Though my friend touted the “free” website setup I could get at NS, I ended up paying $60 annual for lowest-tier web hosting. That’s OK, but then I found out I had to use THEIR web design tool – and after a 30-day trial, THAT will also cost me. Further, their tool is worse than inflexible – it fails to function because it overrides or erases my setup.

What I’m thinking now is to transfer my domains (since I own them now) to another web service (GoDaddy or some other). I want to contact my credit card company and cancel the web hosting/design tool part of my purchase with NS.

Has anyone dealt with managing their own domains and websites? Any *good* advice (as opposed to my colleague’s) as to what my options are now?

How much should I ever pay for an unestablished domain name I want to buy?

Posted under Other - Internet by admin on Friday 17 July 2009 at 6:02 am
Full of Questions asked:

It’s one of those blank sites that is waiting for someone to buy it and if you are interested in buying, it has a form to be filled out saying your name, email, and amount offer to purchase site. So they are going off with you starting out with the price level, but I’m not sure what the going rate is for websites like that.

Thanks for all suggestions

DotEasy.com hosting and domain prices?

Posted under Other - Internet by admin on Friday 17 July 2009 at 5:48 am
asked:

On doteasy.com you have to pay for your domain on a yearly basis… but they have a plan that says the actual hosting is free? “$0 Web Hosting”… I realize this would be fairly basic, but how reliable and good is it? Is it free for only your first year or free forever as long as you pay for your domain?

Thanks!

So it really is only $25 per year… but how good is their service, quality and reliablity?

How to sell more domain names and drive the most traffic to my website on a tight budget?

Posted under Other - Internet by admin on Wednesday 15 July 2009 at 7:02 am
2fly1 asked:

I purchased a 1 page starter site and named it WorkingOffers.com to sell my domain names, I have a little over 200 names and have tried various ways of driving traffic to it but with little success. The best was by far google adwords but I don’t want to by the company and it can get expensive. It would be great if I were selling a product of some kind to pay for the adwords but I don’t and would like to not go much over $100 per month for advertising. We did try Adsense to counter the Adwords price but are lucky to make a dollar per day from adsense when adwords can cost as much as you let it. I would invest thousands per month if the pay off were profitable. I see on Alexa.com some companies shooting up over 30,000 % over a 3 month period and just wonder what they do.
