Everything made before the 1920s somewhere is in the public domain. Everything after 1978 is copyrighted with no exceptions.
After that, it becomes more complicated. Some shows were never legally copyrighted and have always been in the public domain.
Most television shows from the first ones to ones produced in the late 1950s are in the public domain but not all! And even if the show itself is in the public domain, the music on the show may be copyrighted.
Sorry but there’s just no such thing as a conclusive answer to this question. Even copyright lawyers often disagree about whether or not something is in the public domain.
Sometimes large companies that sell public domain TV shows and movies will sue you for selling something that isn’t copyrighted and they never owned it anyway. They know that they will lose eventually but at the same time, they will drive you into bankruptcy with lawyer’s fees.
And finally, so many people are selling public domain stuff and selling it really cheap that it’s unlikely you’ll make any real money at it. Start a real business!
