My Web Domain Registrar Dissappeared, how can I have my domains transferred?

Posted under Other - Internet by admin on Saturday 6 February 2010 at 8:28 am
Steven A asked:

I have a problem, my web host, which is also my domain registrar dissappeared or went bankrupt, I have no clue, I’ve issued a order for my domains to be transferred to another registrar because that one is obviously unreliable. The problem is the order hasn’t been accepted because the registrar’s servers are down, meaning the emails cannot be sent.

So what are my options in these situation? I cannot set up one of my back up domains because the damm host put me in a mess.

I’ve done a bit of research and according to a few people, there’s not much you can do. If your domain registrar goes into bankruptcy, you can’t transfer the domain name.

Are you sure that you haven’t been scammed? There are reports of that happening every once in a while, and it’s awfully fishy for a domain registrar/host to simply vanish.

    Try looking here

If that doesn’t help, I would contact the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
